Writing a condolence note can be extremely difficult. If you have trouble putting your feelings regarding a recent loss in words try following the tips below.
- Be yourself. Write as you would usually speak.
- Be sincere. If your deepest sympathies are with someone say so, but if you feel sorry only about the death say only that.
- Be personal. Write about a specific memory you have regarding the loss. If the deceased person was especially kind to you during a difficult time, or if you remember an especially humorous moment, try writing about that.
- Offer your help. End the note by offering to help the grieving person in any way that you feel is appropriate.
- Follow up. If appropriate, follow the note with a phone call to let the grieving individual know that you are still thinking of him or her.
